 ‘타자는 지옥이다.’

​

타자는 자신의 시선을 통해 나를 바라보면서 나의 세계를 훔쳐가고 동시에 나에게 객체성을 부여하는 존재이다. 그러므로 타자는 항상 나와 투쟁의 관계에 있을 수밖에 없는 처지에 놓여 있다. 장 폴 사르트르는 이렇게 타자를 정의하였다.

내가 어떤 생각을 하던 어떤 행동을 하던 이 세상에 살아 가는 이상 타자와 항상 얽혀있기마련이다.따라서 타자 때문에 나의 행동이 달라지기도 하며 상황 자체가 달라지는 일도 무수히 많다. 타자는 타자이다. 내가 아니다. 우리가 맞잡고 있는 이 손은 우리에게 영향을 많이 주는 기본적 신체 중 하나이다. 무수히 많은 감정찌거기로 이루어진 우리의 관계는 잘려나가기도 하고 이내 도로 붙기도 한다. 이 찌꺼기들은 없어지지 않고 계속 쌓여간다.

'The other is hell.' The other is a person who stole my world while looking at me through his own eyes and at the same time giving me objectivity. Therefore, the batter is always in a position to be in a relationship of struggle with me. Jean Paul Sartre defined the hitter like this. No matter what I think or do, I have always been involved with the hitter who lives in this world, so my behavior changes because of the batter, and the situation itself changes a lot. The batter is the batter. I am not. This hand we are holding is one of the basic bodies that affects us. Our relationship, made up of countless emotional scars, is either cut off or stuck on the road. These debris do not disappear but continue to accumulate.
