고통의 공, 2014​

​

“행복은 자주 우리 바깥에 존재한다. 사랑과 마찬가지로. 하지만 고통은 우리 안에만 존재한다. 우리가 그걸 공 처럼 가지고 노는 일은 그러므로 절대 불가능하다.”

다음은 김연수 단편소설 중 일부분이다. 자신의 고통을 절대 밖으로 세어나갈 수 없다. 나에게 오는 고통들은 무엇이 있을까? 그 고통 중 농구공만한 고통과 야구공 만한 고통은 무엇이 있을까? 나는 과연 그것을 놀이로 탈바꿈하여 가지고 놀 수 있을까?

자 이제, 앞에 있는 농구공들로 공놀이를 시작해보자. 우리는 절대 고통을 놀이로 생각할수없다. 고통은 고통 일 뿐이 다. 재미있는 공놀이처럼 된다면 그것은 고통이 아닐 것이다.

I can never count my own suffering out. What are the sufferings that come to me? What is the pain of a basketball ball and the pain of a baseball ball? Can I change it into play and play with it? Now, let's start playing ball with the basketballs in the front. We can never think of pain as play. Pain is only a pain. If it is like a funny ball, it will not be pain.
